WALK WITH ME | 2.27.25
By Emily Neuhauser
Welcome to The DiscipLined Mind. As someone who is passionate about both writing and empowering others, I am thrilled to bring this resource to you — a space where faith and purpose intersect to EMpower you. I want this blog to combine the power of mental discipline with faith to help you perform at your very best every single day. This blog is an extension of my mission to share practical tools and insights that will help you strengthen your mind, guiding you to live intentionally and align your life with God’s purpose.
I am a sucker for double entendres and the name of this blog reflects just that. The DiscipLined Mind plays on the idea of discipleship, where we follow Christ and discipline our minds according to His will. It’s about developing mental strength and spiritual depth, combining discipline with a strong foundation in faith. Without disciplining the mind to produce good work, the walk of discipleship will not sustain as it should.
Let’s take a closer look at the idea of mental discipline and its role in both personal and spiritual growth. I like to think of discipline as having a set of guiding principles—rules that steer our thoughts, actions, and decisions. These “rules” aren’t about rigid restrictions—rather, they create a framework that aligns our behavior with our core values and goals. To truly succeed, you must actively and consciously train your mind to stay focused on what matters most to you, choosing behaviors that align with your priorities. This also means setting boundaries for your thoughts, emotions, and actions, so that your intentions and purpose remain intact. If you have a clear image of your ideal self in mind (as we all should), mental discipline will be the key to staying on track and becoming that version of yourself—the version of yourself God called you to be.
Mental discipline is foundational not only for your personal success, but for spiritual growth as well. Romans 12:2 speaks on this idea of renewing our minds and taking captive of our every thought when it says, “Do not conform to the pattern of this world, but be transformed by the renewing of your mind.” This verse encapsulates the very essence of what it means to cultivate mental discipline as a follower of Christ. Transformation begins in the mind, and to truly align with God’s will, we must first renew our minds, staying disciplined in our thoughts and actions as they reflect His truth. It’s not enough to just know God’s Word—we must apply His Word daily through disciplined thoughts and intentional actions that honor His purpose for our lives. If you want to walk in discipleship, it all begins with a disciplined mind.
Faith and mental discipline are not just complementary—they are intrinsically linked. Faith fuels the perseverance needed to stay disciplined, especially when the going gets tough. Life throws curveballs, and it's easy to fall into the trap of victimizing ourselves during moments of struggle or when we hit roadblocks. But why fall victim to challenges when faith has the power to sustain us? Faith is the very thing Jesus wants us to lean into in those moments. It keeps us grounded in His promises, even when we can’t see the big picture or don’t fully understand what’s happening. It’s the belief that our efforts—no matter how small or challenging—are part of a greater purpose. When you combine faith and mental discipline, you are not only strengthening your mind, but also building a foundation of spiritual endurance. This foundation can carry you through life’s toughest moments, ultimately leading you to surrender it all to God.
Starting EMpower Mental Performance back in November 2024 has been a journey filled with both excitement and challenge. While the vision I have for this business is clear and rooted in my passion for empowering others, the reality of gaining buy-in and engaging my audience has been a tough hill to climb. There are moments when it feels like a ghost town, and despite my efforts with content and marketing strategies, I struggle to connect with the right people and get the engagement I need to build this Kingdom business.
On tough days, it’s easy to get discouraged. There are moments when the engagement lags behind my expectations, and I start questioning whether my approach is having the impact I desire. But during these times, I remind myself of the core philosophy I hold so dearly: mental discipline combined with faith in God’s timing.
I discipline my mind to stay focused on the mission and keep pressing forward. I’ve learned to trust that my efforts will pay off, even if they don’t yield immediate success. Faith keeps me grounded, reminding me that God is in control of the timing, and that every challenge is part of a bigger plan. It’s His push that helps me keep going, even when I feel like I’m not quite hitting the mark yet. I know that this platform, this business, has been given to me for a reason—to carry out the mission He has set before me.
Even God’s greatest work was done behind the scenes, and I trust that everything I do now will give the impact it’s meant to when the time is right. Though it might not always feel like my purpose is being fulfilled in the moment, I have faith that it will unfold as I continue to stay disciplined and trust in His plan.
We have already explored the first meaning behind the name “The DiscipLined Mind”—the idea of having a disciplined mind. We discussed how discipline is essential for growth. But now, let’s take a look at the second, equally important meaning behind the word, “discipLined.” The capital “L” in DiscipLined” shifts the focus from simply being disciplined to being a disciple. A disciple, in the truest form, is someone who follows Christ, who is actively learning and growing in their faith, and who applies God’s Word in every area of life. It’s about having a disciplined mind that not only focuses on personal success, but also on following God’s will and growing spiritually, as I had pointed out at the beginning of this post.
As a mental performance coach, I am not just here to help you build discipline for personal success. My calling, through the gift God has given me, is to disciple you—to walk alongside you as you strengthen your mental performance while also growing spiritually in your walk with Christ.
I am, in essence, a disciple on a mission to lead others toward the disciplined life that comes from following Jesus. Just as Jesus discipled His followers, I am called to disciple you through the work I do—helping you align your mind and actions with God’s purpose for your life. It’s not just about achieving goals or improving performance—it’s about disciplining your mind in a way that follows Christ, learning to walk in His ways, and empowering others to do the same.
This blog, this platform, is all about helping you discover that your mental discipline and spiritual growth can go hand in hand. And as I continue this journey, my prayer is that through my guidance, you will become equipped to walk out your own discipleship in a way that honors God and fulfills His purpose for your life.

After each of these blog posts, I want to wrap up with a moment in prayer—covering you, your journey, and the work God is doing in your life. So wherever you are, I invite you to pause, take a breath, and receive this prayer:
Heavenly Father,
Thank You for the gift of our minds and the strength to discipline them in Your truth. We come before You today, asking for the wisdom and perseverance to stay focused on Your purpose for our lives. Help us to renew our minds daily, aligning our thoughts, actions, and decisions with Your will. May we not be swayed by the distractions of this world, but instead, remain anchored in Your promises.
Lord, we ask for the faith to trust in Your perfect timing. Even when the road is tough and the journey feels uncertain, we know that You are working behind the scenes. Help us to stay disciplined in our efforts, believing that every challenge we face is part of Your greater plan.
We also pray for the courage to follow You wholeheartedly, as true disciples. May our minds be open to Your guidance, and may we grow not just in mental strength, but in spiritual depth as we walk with You each day.
In Jesus’ name, we pray. Amen.
Until next time, God bless, and remember, you’re always supported in your journey by me, your God-given coach.
